Hello everyone, my name is Elsa Tamayo, and I’m excited to share an update from one of our amazing members, the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter (SCCAS).
Earlier this year, we highlighted the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter’s incredible work rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need. As the County’s only open-admission shelter, SCCAS provides 24/7 rescue services and compassionate care for more than 6,500 animals every year. Their mission to create a culture of compassion continues to shine through, and their program Cuddle Connections is a perfect example of that.
About Cuddle Connections
Cuddle Connections offers small group sessions for adults 50 and older to spend quality time with shelter animals. It’s a heartwarming opportunity to bring comfort, connection, and joy to both people and pets. Participants can cuddle, pet, and bond with animals while learning more about the shelter’s mission, all in a calm and welcoming environment.
Especially during the holiday season, when feelings of isolation and depression can increase, programs like Cuddle Connections offer a meaningful way to connect. Spending time with animals has been shown to lift moods, reduce stress, and foster a sense of belonging, making these sessions a beautiful source of comfort for many in our community.
