Location(s): This position will be stationed at the Headquarters Office in Watsonville, CA. There is a hybrid work schedule available after the first 90 days of employment. Candidates further than 40 miles from Watsonville may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule earlier than the first 90 days of employment.
JOB OVERVIEW:
Digital NEST is a workforce development center that has welcomed hundreds of youth from working-class, farmworker communities to develop the technical and professional skills they need to achieve their dreams. It is an exciting time for the NEST as we are on the precipice of expanding to a total of five communities across Northern California by the end of 2026. Digital NEST has centers in the heart of Watsonville, Salinas, Gilroy, Stockton and Modesto. The first Digital NEST in the Central Valley is expected to launch in Stockton in 2023, with plans to scale across the Bay Area and San Joaquin Valley also underway.
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Development Manager will coordinate and execute the development efforts of Digital NEST for: annual campaigns for non-major donors, special projects, Moves Management to MGD, the Development Department Calendar, research for new prospects, support for Site Directors, special events and support for Salesforce.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Development (80%)
- The Development Manager will hold a portfolio of 50+ non-major donors (<$5,000/year) and a prospect portfolio of 50+ non-major donors at all times.
- Develop and manage a year-round/annual individual campaign for all non-major donors.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward new individual prospects.
- Design and develop solicitation strategies, shaping giving opportunities that match prospects and donors’ interests, personally solicit gifts, and continually steward donors, both electronic, hard copy and in-person/phone.
- Manage the End-of-Year Campaign by developing a campaign strategy, managing the deliverables, and coordinating mass mailings.
- Create donor/prospect profiles, volunteer profiles, NEST stories, and donor proposals as needed.
- Coordinate with the Communications and Marketing Director regarding social media communications for non-major donors.
- Manage special projects, fundraising events and campaigns for non-major donors, including but not limited to, annual birthday celebrations, Thankathons, donor engagement events, etc.
- Track prospect and donor contacts in Salesforce in collaboration with the Senior Salesforce Manager.
- Create and facilitate donors’ direct and indirect cultivation at events.
- Establish effective working relationships with volunteers and other stakeholders to nurture their connection to Digital NEST.
- Create and maintain an up-to-date Development calendar with all administrative functions, campaigns and events to ensure the successful execution of development department initiatives including all follow-up activities for donors.
- Assist the Development team in creating a culture of development and philanthropy within the Digital NEST organization, with the goal of 100% staff giving.
- Develop strong working relationships with the Finance team to support the fulfillment of all donor requirements.
Communications (10%)
- Edit and proofread reports and external communications to donors.
- Assist with proofing, editing, and maintaining all external Digital NEST collateral, including the website and newsletters.
Site Director Support (10%)
- Establish relationships and regular meetings with Site Directors.
- Support Site Directors with individual fundraising campaigns and goals.
- Act as liaison between Site Directors and the Development Department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 7 years development experience.
- At least 3 years, full-time, performing administrative functions such as maintaining records, calendars and developing and maintaining administrative systems.
- At least 3 years of supervisory experience.
- An appropriate industry or academic credential in the Nonprofit Development field.
- Applied, working knowledge of and experience with developing and managing departmental budgets.
- Beginning-level conflict resolution skills.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Passion for the mission of Digital NEST and belief in upholding organization’s core values.
- Understanding of and sensitivity to issues of culture/ethnicity/race, gender, sexual identity, class/socioeconomic status and immigration status.
- Ability to be an ally to people of color, women and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, queer, questioning and intersex individuals and their allies (LGBTQIA).
- Candidates must have a valid CA driver’s license, pass a background check, and be able to travel and work evenings or weekends occasionally, or as needed.
- Dexterity and coordination, sufficient to perform essential functions.
- Ability to perform administrative and computer-based tasks for up to 4.5 hours at a time.
