Full-time 100% FTE (will consider 80%FTE for the right candidate) – Exempt Compensation range: $90,000 – $110,000.  Annual Salary Benefits: PTO and Sick Time. Full Medical and Retirement.  Budget Size: $1M+

The Director of Healthy Places is a highly skilled nonprofit fundraiser, bridge builder and community advocate who believes deeply in County Park Friends mission to activate the power of parks. This Director is a core member of County Park Friends’ leadership team and leads research, development and fundraising to develop Healthy Places for all. The Director manages a priority multi-year strategic focus on park equity; specifically developing access to park acreage in Pajaro Valley. The Director sets goals, creates strategies, and implements development plans to ensure the financial sustainability and growth potential of the organization. This Director supervises grant writers and capital campaign community leads and reports to the Executive Director. Development at County Park Friends centers and arises from current and projected programming and overall organizational goals.


● Partner closely with Executive Director on overall organizational strategic planning, alignment between Healthy People and Healthy Places programming and development.

● Recommend, design and manage Healthy Places capital improvement campaigns, with initial focus on expanding access to park acreage in Pajaro Valley through acquisition, redevelopment and/or development of joint-use agreements.

● Manage and implement County Park Friends annual development strategy and plan including individual donors, foundation grants, governmental funds, and corporate giving.

● Lead Healthy Places Team (composed of Executive Director, grant-writers, capital campaign leads) on all aspects of Healthy Places fundraising including prospecting, proposal development, funder reporting, data, major event/campaign design, and funder relationship stewardship, cultivation, and gratitude.

● Direct supervision and management of grant-writers and capital campaign community leads

● Represent County Park Friends at events, with partners, and in the community on occasion.

● Availability during non-traditional hours such as evenings or weekends on occasion.


● Proven success in developing diverse revenue streams for nonprofits.

● Passion for change founded in authentic relationship building.

● Passion for impactful systems change and patience to celebrate the steps along the way

● Solutions-oriented problem solver; able to analyze problems and recommend an effective diversity of solutions.

● Strong organizational skills and highly dependable with thorough follow through.

● Strong communication skills; ability to give and receive direct and authentic feedback.

● Ability to work collaboratively in a non-traditional, diverse organizational structure

● Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.

● Ability to work independently, under minimal supervision, and act on own initiative

● Exceptional writing and editing skills.

● Experience with donor information systems

● High level of attention to detail.

● Valid California driver’s license.



● Spanish and English fluency.

● Rooted in or with deep understanding of the incorporated and unincorporated communities of Pajaro Valley and other parts of Santa Cruz County.

● Understanding of, and commitment to, park equity and environmental justice.

● Understanding of, and commitment to, racial, social, LGBTQ+ justice.

Position details: This is a 40-hour per week, full time, exempt position. PTO, sick time, and full medical and retirement benefits provided. Salary commensurate with experience within the $90,000-$110,000 starting range. (80%FTE will be considered for the right candidate.)
