SC Chamber: 2025 Employment Law Workshop

Join the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce for an in-depth exploration of the pivotal legal developments that will impact employers in 2025. Experts from Hopkins & Carley will lead  “Overview of New Employment Laws for 2025,” their annual workshop aimed at keeping you ahead of the curve on crucial legal changes affecting your workplace.

In 4th quarter 2024 we will post more on the specific topics that will be addressed during the workshop.  Examplese from the past several years include:

1. New Legislation and Regulations : Get the latest insights on the evolving legal landscape, including updates to the paid sick leave law, revised I-9 document requirements, amendments to regulations on applicants’ criminal records, the new mandate for workplace violence prevention plans, revisions to California law concerning covenants not to compete and other restrictive covenants, and the much-anticipated increase in the California minimum wage.

2. Wage and Hour Developments: Stay informed on crucial court decisions that could impact your workforce. We’ll cover topics such as the rounding of time records for non-exempt employees, the “salary basis” test for white-collar exemptions, and the intricacies of final wage payments during furloughs.

3. Discrimination, Harassment, and Retaliation Developments: Explore recent court decisions that shed light on affirmative action, religious belief and practice accommodations, the application of FEHA to employees refusing flu vaccinations, and the liability of supervisors for harassment outside the workplace.

4. Arbitration Developments: Understand the ever-changing arbitration landscape, with insights into new court decisions surrounding Assembly Bill 51, the impact of binding arbitration on claims under the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA), and the critical importance of timely payment of arbitration fees.

5. NLRB Developments: Stay up to date with key NLRB decisions, including Stericycle, McLaren Macomb, and Lion Elastomers.
