“Being Thunder” Film Screening and discussion at The Diversity Center

In honor of Native American Heritage Month, please join us for a screening and roundtable discussion of the documentary film “Being Thunder.”

This is a FREE event, all ages 13 and over are very welcome.

The film follows Sherenté Harris, a Two-Spirit genderqueer teenager from Rhode Island’s Narragansett tribe. Sherenté is a championship Eastern War Dancer, following in the tradition of their father, who has also taken up Fancy Shawl dance in the tradition of their mother. This film follows Sherenté’s journey as a fancy shawl dancer who performs with poise and grace both in and out of the dance grounds while they navigate opposition to their dancing based on “traditional” colonial binary gender norms.
