Preparing Successful Grant Proposals

Attend this training to deepen your understanding of the basics of writing strong funding proposals. Learn how to help your nonprofit organization stand out and better demonstrate its potential. The training will focus on:
- Understanding and strengthening the components of grant proposals, including measuring and evaluating impact.
- How grant writing reflects an organization’s priorities and values
- Current approaches, interests and perspectives in grant writing to foundations
- Keys for successful proposals
Training format
This interactive session will be held in-person with opportunities to ask questions, connect with others and begin drafting proposal sections. A light lunch will be provided.
Bonus
In addition, participating nonprofits may access an hour of one-on-one consulting time with the trainer for individualized support following the training. ($200 value)
Teams
Many people contribute to the overall process of developing grant proposals, such as those researching opportunities, developing programs and budgets or even reviewing drafts. For the most value, we encourage at least one person per organization to attend the training in-person, however others from your team are welcome to attend synchronously via Zoom at no additional cost.
Intended Audience
This training welcomes those with some experience preparing grant proposals who are looking to get better at it. Nonprofit organizations with a current revenue strategy that includes grants should find the training valuable. Those with recent staff changes or leadership transitions may also benefit.
This training is not geared toward beginners. If your nonprofit is brand new to grant-seeking or you want a basic overview of preparing grant proposals, we recommend you explore the following other resources first:

About the trainer:
The Center for Nonprofit Excellence (CNE) of the Community Foundation for Monterey County is pleased to partner with trainer Grace Hammond (E.G. Hammond Consulting). Grace has over 25 years’ experience as a consultant and trainer to nonprofit organizations and public agencies, specializing in Strategic Planning, Fund Development Planning, Organizational Development and Assessments, and nonprofit Boards of Directors. Her training experience ranges from designing and presenting workshops for Community Foundations, serving as a faculty member of San Jose State University’s Nonprofit Management Program to a being a Guest Lecturer at Tokyo University. She has taught beginning and advanced grant writing courses to nonprofits of all sizes and authored an outcomes guidebook. She also serves as coach for LEAD Institute.
