BBQueer Fest: Mexican Folkloric Dance with Alex Santana

September 30, 2021 @ 6:45 pm - 7:45 pm PDT
Tannery World Dance & Cultural Center Free

This event is private, is open for vaccinated BIPOC ages 12 and up to attend, and will be held indoors at TWDCC and masked.

Baile Folklórico de México, or Mexican Folkloric dance, is an expressive art form combining Indigenous, African, Arabic and European influences in its movement and music. In this workshop, you’ll experience a brief history and instruction of a traditional folkloric dance from the region of the Huasteca.

No experience necessary. No special footwear necessary.

Alex Santana Jr is a professional Baile Folklórico dancer. He brings over 20 years of knowledge of dance to share with everyone who is interested in learning! He currently dances with Watsonville’s Esperanza del Valle dance company, which is celebrating 41 years of sharing and preserving the art of Folklórico.

BBQueer (BLACK, BROWN, AND QUEER!) is a collaboration between three dance/art & community-centered organizations: Motion Pacific Dance (MP), Tannery World Dance and Cultural Center (TWDCC), and Gerald Casel Dance (GCD). BBQueer provides a home where the BIPOC queer community can feel seen, affirmed, included & safe; this festival is where QTBIPOC folx can share their work, celebrate their identities, & take workshops.
